The next step is very important. Take a match and burn back the insulation to the edge of the

core on both leads. Then use a piece of fine sandpaper, I like to use 220 grit, and clean the leads

until they are bright and shiny. Fig. 3 shows the leads after burning, Fig. 4 shows one lead

cleaned. Be sure to clean both leads. Set it aside for now.
